The Benefits of shaving road/treaded tyres

Over my 20+ years as a Race Driver, Test Driver and Driver Coach a key aspect
of what I do is advise on tyre strategy. I've known from my earliest involvement with working with tyres that a shaved tyre will 'outperform' an unshaved tyre in the dry.

What I mean by outperform is that it will grip better and generally last longer (as
a usable tyre) than a brand new tyre. Tread is only required to disperse water, it is
not needed in the slightest for grip.

I was asked recently to do a test of shaved vs unshaved tyres and do a report based on data captured during these session.
